Dashama's 30 Day Yoga Challenge Vs. Bikram's Yoga Challenge

Bikram Yoga

Most people around the world have heard of Bikram Choudhury. He is the single most famous yogi alive today. His name is googled almost a million times per month by people around the world and he is known for being a very contreversial yogi.

Why is he so famous?

Bikram's name was put on the map for several reasons, one of which is his tendency to sue yogis and other professional instructors if they attempt to use the yoga poses and sequences that he has 'Trademarked'. This, in the yoga industry, is very uncommon. Very few other yoga teachers and professionals have gotten involved in trying to own certain sequences to the point that they will sue you and fine you up to $100,000 for each case. He was the first to Franchise Yoga and take it to the masses in America. He claims that his sequence healed his injuries, but the funny thing is: perhaps he wouldn't have been injuried if he hadn't been practicing the way that he does! He began practicing yoga at a young age, like myself, but he was highly competitive with it. His competitive nature was so excessive that it eventually lead him to injury. Now he encourages the same competitive behavior with his yogis that lead to his injury.

My opinion?

Bikram is a multi-millionaire business tycoon first and a yogi second. And that's fine. I have no judgment about him at all and actually am grateful for the energy he has put into the industry, since he has brought so much attention to yoga in the media, it is great for everyone involved.

**His contreversial media attention is great for the PEOPLE, who may have not ever been introduced to yoga if it was not for him.

**It is great for YOGA and health PROFESSIONALS, as the more people are drawn to the practice of yoga and who are honestly seeking a path to follow that may lead to a genuine state of health and happiness in life, the more doors open for those who are dedicating their life and their time to share this knowledge, wisdom and information with the public.

**Its' great for the whole world~ as the more well known the yoga industry becomes, the more likely people will begin a regular practice, improve their health, hopefully become more mindful and conscious of their thoughts, words and actions, this can all lead to a better world!

**And finally, it is great for the ECONOMY. Even though when Bikram sues someone, that individual person's finances are impacted, it forces everyone to think creatively, outside of the box and not try to copy something someone else is doing, just because its working for him.

Bikram's program

**is only available if you can physically come into one of his franchised studios.

**You must pay the class costs (appx $20/class depending upon the location) he may offer a month rate for those participating in the challenge.

**There is NO Diet to follow

**NO community support,

**NO online videos,

**NO organized social networking,

**NO proof that its good for you to practice yoga each day for 30-90 days for 90 minutes eachday, in 106 degree heated room.

In fact, many of Dashama's students and clients from over the years have come to her program after experiencing injury in a Bikram Yoga class. The fact is: its really not good for people to do those postures in that intense of heat, if you aren't already flexible or strong with great body awareness.

The same goes for all advanced practices, however. Whether it is extreme temperatures, very advanced postures or any other practice: the key is to honor your body and listen to what it is telling you. Listen when it says stop. And if something looks too challenging for you right now, just wait, build up to it and try it again when you are stronger, more flexible and ready to do it without getting injured. To injure yourself in yoga is an oxymoron and should not happen as often as it does. It happens when people push beyond their ability level into the realm they are not prepared to go. It happens with the Ego says yes and the body says, "No, I'm not ready for that just yet.."

Listen to your guiding intuition, it will always tell you exactly what you need to know. Its that little voice inside of your heart and mind that feels warm when it feels right and goes cold and contracted when something is not right. You possess all of the answers within yourself. Stop, be still, listen... and breath.

Dashama

Aloha Love!

I am so excited to share one of the biggest opportunities I have been presented with in my life! As you may already know, I have been hosting my Lifestyle TV show on the internet (via youtube) for a few years now...

I have been dreaming and visualizing about connecting with Oprah and getting my show on her new TV Network OWN, which will launch in January of 2011 (replacing what is currently Discovery Health Channel). She has been one of the greatest sources of inspiration in my life. Ever since my Aunt gave me the book "How to Be Life Women of Influence" in High School (which included Oprah, Mother Theresa, Eleanor Roosevelt, Amelia Earhardt and Helen Keller amongst others).
Then, by divine appointment, and only 1 week after I moved to Los Angeles, I was informed about her TV Show Hostess Casting!

So, please take a moment to vote for my show and spread the word. Go to this link now, watch the video and vote as many times as you want. **There are not limits to the number of times you can vote.**

We already have 1450 votes in the first day, and as you can see, the top video has over 900,000 votes already, so we have a lot of catching up to do! I believe in the power of this show and know it will be a huge success and impact many people globally.

Also, I will be going to the live audition in Laguna Beach, CA on June 19, so that is another opportunity for me to share my dream with the casting producers.

Thank you in advance for your support and love.

I am leaving for Whistler tomorrow to teach at the Whistler Yoga Conference June 3-7 and then headed straight to NY to teach a private yoga retreat and teach and speak at the Yoga and Raw Food Expo in Manhatten. I hope to see some of you at these events!

Have a beautiful day and my your life continually be blessed in all ways,

Love, light and Namaste,
Dashama

What Song is Stuck in Your Head..?

April 22, 2010 30DYC Experts by Dashama

"Time unfolds and moment by moment-

the mystery reveals itself

like a lotus flower in august;

soon the awakened observer merges into

cosmic oneness with the divine,

only to finally realize,

they were united all the time!" DKG

Have you ever gotten a song stuck in your mind?

(if not, you may be the only person who hasn't!)

The words just keep repeating over and over~

Usually only to cease once you actually hear

the song again,
or replace the song with the words of another song...

The important thing is not how to get the song out of your head

(although that could be a great topic for another newsletter)..
but, what words/song are you getting/putting in there in the first place.

You see, words work like magic:

In the process of conscious co-creation of your reality

it all begins with thought forms,
that turn into words,
that become actions,
that shape your destiny.

So, now I ask you, what song lyrics

do you typically have running through your mind?
What are you programming your subconscious mind with?

Do you typically listen to whatever is on the radio?
Do you listen to self-selected music (cds or mp3)?
Audiobooks?
Perhaps you don't listen to anything at all?

The point is: the words to the songs/audio selections
you are repeatedly exposed to make a huge
contribution to your mood, to your attitude,
to your perception of life in general.

If you listen to sad love songs all the time,

do you wonder why you are filled with longing
for the love and affection of a partner?

If you have rap/hip/hop songs running
through your mind: do you wonder why you
desire to make more money and work less?

If you're listening to uplifting or spiritual music,
perhaps you are walking around feeling blissful~

The point is, these words are not just merely a catchy tune..
They are creating your mood, shaping
your attitude, and influencing not only how you
feel at that moment, but also how
you think about everything in your life.

So?

Choose wisely the food you feed your mind.
Nourish your mind, body and soul
with the highest quality, organic and pure
thoughts, foods, and experiences possible.

Until next time,
Be blessed and be blissful~
Namaste,
Dashama

Four Fruits that Accelerate Fat Burning!

April 22, 2010 30DYC Experts by Dashama

"Life is short, Break some rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly,
Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile."

If you or someone you know has been trying to lose weight or
just reduce your body fat, you may be interested in learning the
concept of thermagenic eating.

There is an entire science dedicated to the combination of foods,
which will enable a person's body to "burn" fat most effectively and
efficiently. The truth is, fat is never "burned" as we may imagine.
It is simply released and utilized as a source of energy to power
your life activities. But, for simplicity's sake, it is often referred to as
"burning" fat. That is the key to weight loss: "burn" the fat that is stored.

I could write novels about this topic, but I will start simple for you.

Below you will find a list of 4 foods you can eat that are thermagenic

in nature. Thermagenic simply means to raise the metabolism level and enable the

body to release stored fat.

In my next newsletter I will write about a few dietary tips,
that you can easily incorporate into your daily life, that will lead you
to a more rapid fat loss experience.

Thermagenic Fruits and Vegetables-

1. Apples: The old adage, "An apple a day keeps a doctor away"
is very applicable. Apples are rich in the soluble fiber pectin, which is well known for its cholesterol lowering effect. Pectin retains cholesterol in the stomach, binds with it, and carries it through the digestive tract for elimination.

In a recent study appearing in the Annals of Internal Medicine, researchers reported
that apple pectin reduces blood sugar levels. Elevated blood sugar levels cause your body to stimulate production of insulin, the fat storage hormone.

2. Brown seaweed: Dr. Kazuo Miyashita at Hokkaido University in Japan found that fucoxanthin, a compound found in brown seaweed used in Asian cuisine, promotes fat burning in tests conducted on obese animals. Fucoxanthin appeared to increase the  production of proteins responsible for boosting metabolism.

3. Grapefruit: Grapefruit has long been a staple in many nutritional programs aimed at fat and weight reduction. Current research conducted at Scripps Clinic in San Diego, CA found that participants eating half a grapefruit a day for 12 weeks lost an average of 3.6 lbs. These researchers found that grapefruit helps in lowering insulin levels. Insulin locks fat in the cells and blocks its release to be burned as fuel.

4. Pears. Researchers at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil found that overweight women on a low-calorie diet, who ate 3 pears or apples daily, lost more weight than overweight women on a low-calorie diet who hadn't added fruit to their diet. This study also revealed a significantly greater decrease in blood glucose levels.

**If you are among the group of people
who has been avoiding fruits because of their sugar content,
due to the Atkins diet hoopla, it may do you some good to
incorporate at least a few of these more thermagenic fruits
into your diet. Your body will thank you for it- perhaps in the form
of some welcomed fat loss. :-)

Blessings to you on your path to your healthiest mind, body and soul ~

Namaste,
Dashama

The Meaning of Life...

April 22, 2010 30DYC Experts by Dashama

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Have you thought about "who you are" lately?

This is somewhat of a heavy question.

Most people don't take much time to contemplate this regularly.

But the value of truly knowing the answer to this question,

will increase the quality and enjoyment level of your life, in a dramatic way.

Here are 3 questions to ask yourself, that will help you to discover

the answer to the question "who am I".

  1. If you were to ask 3 close friends to list 10 qualities that make you the person that you are, what do you think they would say?

  2. What 3 traits do you most dislike about yourself? How might these be gifts in disguise?

  3. What is one of the dreams of your heart that you have for your life? Are you currently working toward attaining that? If not, what specifically could you do to begin the process?

The answers you come up with for these questions will give you a good idea of your current self image. This self image is what you use to decide how to feel about yourself.

How you feel about yourself leads to how you treat yourself --- and how you treat others as well.

It actually influences the quality of your daily life.

It is important to do things often that help you define who you are and what you enjoy.

With the absence of this practice, a person can "lose them self" and start feeling less joy and excitement about life. This can lead to depression, stress, weight gain, and can contribute to many dis-eases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, chronic fatigue, etc. .

I encourage you to take time for yourself and figure out what you can do to honor yourself.

Some examples of what you may do include:

  • Improve your health or lose weight,

  • Start a new hobby,

  • Spend time alone in meditation with your higher Self/ in communion with God

  • Or learn something new.

This year, make your own health and happiness a priority!

I look forward to hearing about your self discoveries, so please don't hesitate to email me at any time.

Have a beautiful week,
Namaste,
Dashama
